How Edentory began in Essex

Edentory began in Essex with a simple idea: it should be easier to find the people who grow, bake and make food nearby.

The idea that started in Essex

Edentory was founded in Essex around a simple idea. Buying a local loaf, a jar of honey or produce from a nearby grower should fit into an ordinary week. The first step is being able to find the producer and see what they actually have to sell.

That is the idea behind our question, ‘Why not buy local?’ A single purchase can be a practical way to get closer to the people who make your food.

What we want to make easier

A small grower or baker needs a way to tell neighbours what is ready, when orders close and where to collect. A shopper needs to know who made the food, what is in it and how to get it. We’re building Edentory around those everyday decisions.

The ambition is for other communities to make the same connections in ways that work for them. What’s available will differ by place and season. That variation is part of what makes buying from nearby producers interesting.
